Positive impact

Positive impact

For over a decade, we have been committed to making a positive impact beyond the people directly connected with our products. Where possible, we donate to causes operating near where we manufacture so that our impact on people is extended. In real terms, this is at least 10% of profits donated to causes in India important to humanity and the planet.

SHAKTI EDUCATION CENTRE

The heart of our giving and the soul of our work—the Shakti Education Centre sits at the centre of everything we support. It has grown from a donated laptop into a fully equipped classroom designed to help children return to mainstream education.

The centre was established in 2019 by a former primary school teacher and her colleague, who holds a master’s degree in social work. Together with the foundation, we have helped build a school, fund a full-time teacher, and provide stationery, uniforms and health camps.

The education centre is not intended to replace school. Instead, it acts as a bridge, helping children who have not had access to formal education catch up and transition into school, while also supporting them with homework and after-school learning.

In 2025, we are expanding our support to include a mental health counsellor, a life-skills teacher, twice-weekly meals, a television for learning, and private school funding for five promising children.

We are also supporting the 300 families in the surrounding community through medical camps, water purifiers, deworming tablets and sanitary pads for girls.

Finally, we have created a skills development centre to train mothers of the children. By renting a centre, purchasing sewing machines and employing a trainer, we can help create stable careers and new opportunities for both them and their families.

Santoshrani Shastripuram School

Our work with the Shakti Education Centre was so meaningful that we decided to search for an equivalent school near our other main centre of production–Agra. We found what we were searching for in the Santosh Rani Shastripuram School.

We partnered with Kishor Exports to form the Kishor Shakti Foundation which we jointly fund and allows us to create an impact in the local community. This school is operated by an NGO and provides high-quality schooling for a highly subsidised cost to children that would otherwise be unable to afford private schooling. The school has been gifted land which allowed them to build good facilities and is financed by a number of donors, which now includes us.

Safe Water Now

Millions of people are still without access to safe water. So, in 2023 & 2024 we took a leap of faith and committed a significant donation to Evidence Action, a new charity established to improve the safety of water in India.

In contributing to this initiative, we became of around 10 donors sponsoring the funding of a pilot study which aimed to validate the effectiveness of adding chlorine to drinking water sources in a number of rural Indian villages.

Since then, the Indian Government issued an advisory notice encouraging all states to follow Evidence Action’s recommendations based on this pilot study. Right now, this charity is in a state of “watch this space” as they install a further 400 systems to demonstrate the value in a second study.
